Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949) is an American businesswoman investor speaking, consultant and syndicated columnist. She is also an author, and television personality. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage that she founded. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran eventually left the company. Corcoran is one of ABC’s original Shark Tank investors. As of now, she has been in each season of Shark Tank. She has participated in 53 deals since February of 2020. The most significant was a $350,000 purchase to cover 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the second of 10 children in a middle class Irish-Catholic family. Florence Corcoran's mother was an errand-taker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father through Corcoran’s childhood. Sometimes, her family relied upon free food delivery from a friendly local grocery store. Corcoran remembers her father as one who sometimes was a drinker and treated her mother with disrespect and sneer, especially after he'd consumed alcohol. Corcoran struggled throughout her schooling, later learning that she was dyslexic. Corcoran was educated in an Catholic elementary and then started high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran completed her studies at Leonia High School with a degree in English after not completing several classes in her first year of high school.
